Matthew Shakow is a student from Saratoga Springs, NY, who is set to graduate with an advanced Regents diploma and a dual enrollment in Career Technical Education from New Visions Health Careers Exploration in June 2023. Matthew has been recognized as a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, and National Technical Honor Society. He is also an active member of his community, with a love for planting, chess, and music, particularly fiddling on the violin and cello. As a student researcher in the Saratoga Springs High School Science Research Program, Matthew conducted a solo project that investigated the relationship between cognitive abilities and theoretical accuracy in Tic-Tac-Toe, and presented his findings at a local symposium. Matthew is also part of the program's first-ever research team/partnership, designing an experiment that examines language perception of the bouba/kiki effect, and has competed at the GRCSEF Regeneron and JSHS. Furthermore, he has gained work experience as a Front-End Teammate at Market 32 and a Starbucks Barista, where he has excelled in customer service and maintaining cleanliness. Finally, he has showcased his talents in various extracurricular activities, including serving as Vice President of the Saratoga Springs High School Fiddle Club, playing as a cellist in the Saratoga Youth Symphony, and participating in the Saratoga Springs High School Chess Club.
